It's been 30 years since Scotland the Best was first published, and we're thrilled to welcome its author, Peter Irvine, to talk about its evolution, changes, and the latest reissue of Scotland's bestselling guide. In his own words: 'Compiling this edition was much more of an undertaking than any since the first, thirty years ago. Then and now it involved an odyssey of months on the road, always aiming to experience the fine places personally. After Covid receded it was clear that many businesses had to take a serious and creative look at how they were going to continue in a post-pandemic, post-Brexit world. However, it is a new world'.

We can't wait to welcome Peter to the bookshop & hope you'll join us. Peter will be chatting about the best Scotland has to offer with award-winning broadcaster and dear friend, Edi Stark.

Scotland the Best

For the last thirty years Peter Irvine has travelled the length and breadth of the country seeking out the new, the quirky, the original and the best for his respected and informative guide, Scotland the Best. This week he launches the 14th edition of the revised and updated guide (published by Harper Collins), the first since the pandemic which explores the post-Brexit, post-Covid and much altered hospitality landscape of Scotland. The book contains over 2000 recommendations for every type of adventure from wild camping to boutique hotels, local cafes to regional restaurants, coastal walks, city strolls and wild swimming, and is the perfect travel companion.
