Raised on the banks of the Tay Estuary, and with a profound lyric sensibility, John Glenday is one of the finest poets writing in Scotland today. His 2010 collection, Grain, was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize and the Ted Hughes Award, and 2015’s The Golden Mean was awarded the Roehampton Poetry Prize.

In conjunction with StAnza, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, and Book Week Scotland, John will be treating us to an evening of the poems he holds most dear. This is a celebration of committing poems to memory, and of carrying them through life. In the words of John’s poem, ‘The Matchsafe’: If you must carry fire, carry it in / your heart.
