Award-winning historian Antony Beevor will be with us to talk about his latest work Ardennes 1944: Hitler’s Last Gamble, which relates the events of the greatest battle fought in Western Europe; the Battle of the Bulge. Played out in the snow- covered forests of the Ardennes, German forces attempted to drive through the middle of the Allies in order to recapture Antwerp and force the British and Canadians out of the war. The initial German assault took the Allies completely by surprise, and what followed was a drawn out conflict involving more than a million men.
Antony Beevor’s best-selling books Stalingrad, Berlin and D-Day have confirmed him to be one of the most popular and respected historians writing today. Not only an outstanding author, Antony is also a skilled speaker, and we look forward to hearing him bring to life for us this crucial moment in Western history.
