We are delighted to welcome esteemed historian Sir Antony Beevor to mark the publication of his latest book, Arnhem: The Battle for the Bridges, 1944. Known for his landmark historical studies — including Stalingrad, Berlin: The Downfall 1945, and D-Day:The Battle for Normandy, to name but a few — he is one of our best-selling and most highly regarded contemporary historians, with an array of honours and accolades to his name.
Delving into previously overlooked sources, Beevor reconstructs the ill-fated ally attempt to secure the city of Arnhem in his stunning, narrative prose. He examines the nature of heroic failure and remakes the terrible reality of the fighting afresh, moving through specifics to encounter the very heart of war: the strategic manoeuvres, the astonishing struggles, and the staggering losses it entails. Antony is a fantastic speaker, and this is sure to be a most fascinating evening.
