Shaun Bythell

This October we are pleased to welcome bookseller extraordinaire, Shaun Bythell, to St Andrews. Shaun is the owner of The Bookshop, Scotland’s largest second-hand bookshop. For over 50 years, The Bookshop has been home to over 100,000 books, spread over a mile of shelves, with twisting corridors and roaring fires. All punctuated by the bucolic surroundings of Wigtown.

Though daylighting as a bookshop owner, Shaun is beloved amongst booksellers and booklovers alike for his series of diaries documenting a life in the book trade. His previous offerings, Confessions of a Bookseller and The Diary of  a Bookseller, charmed even the cynics among us with tales of the eccentricities and wonders of his life and the people he meets as the owner of the oldest bookshop in Scotland’s National Book Town.

This time round, Shaun joins us to talk about Remainders of the Day, the latest instalment of his bookselling diaries. Filled with the pernickety warmth and humour that has touched readers around the world, stuffed with literary treasures, hidden gems and incunabula, Remainders of the Day is Shaun Bythell at his bookselling best.
