For the month of June, The Literary Odyssey Book Group will be reading There There by Tommy Orange.
One of Barack Obama’s favourite books of 2018, and a novel that Marlon James calls ‘a thunderclap,’ There There follows the connections and relationships between various Native Americans in and around Oakland, California, as they gather for the celebration of the Big Oakland Powwow. All of them are connected by bonds they may not yet understand. While some journey to the powwow as an act of self-discovery, one person aims to attend for much darker reasons. A finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in fiction, Tommy Orange is an exciting new author with a fresh and bold voice.
The Literary Odyssey Book Group meets the last Wednesday of every month for an hour discussing the month’s selection. We read contemporary literary fiction and, when we meet, chat about our thoughts of the book over a wee snack and a glass of wine. If you have any questions or an interest in joining, just ask one of our booksellers, send us an email, or give us a ring!
