‘Inexhaustibly ingenious’ — Hilary Mantel
Having won three Costa (formerly Whitbread) Novel Awards, for her debut Behind the Scenes at the Museum, and her two most recent books, Life After Life and A God in Ruins, Kate Atkinson is a favourite of readers across the country. We are delighted to welcome her to St Andrews this September to celebrate her latest work, Transcription.
When eighteen year old Juliet Armstrong is whisked into the world of 1940s espionage, her work in an obscure department of MI5 is both terrifying and tedious. But ten years later, having put the years of the war behind her, and working at the BBC, Juliet is confronted by the fixtures of her past, and learns that there can be no action without consequences.
