Evelyn Waugh is a familiar, well loved figure to many of us, but we’ll venture you’ll not know him quite the way Duncan McLaren does!

The critic Miranda Seymour recently observed that “while not quite up there with Shakespeare and God, Waugh has had his fair share of interpreters”, to which we should now add the inimitable Duncan McLaren, and commend him for hisalert, comic and original approach to the frequently overearnest world of critical studies in Eng Lit”.

Evelyn! is Duncan’s fabulously unconventional biography of the man behind classics such as Brideshead Revisited and A Handful of Dust, a highly personal account of Evelyn’s life and work, and a wonderfully comic, insightful curiosity.

Differing in style from most biographies, Duncan has combined an outside-the-box mindset with unpublished pictures and little considered characters to create a vivid and memorable account of Waugh’s life during the early decades of the twentieth century: A perfect piece for anyone that enjoys a different take on the lives of literary masters.

Duncan’s previous work includes an equally-unusual investigation into the life of Enid Blyton (Enid), as well as a book on the psychology of artists, Personal Delivery. Join us for what is sure to be a highly entertaining, and informative evening with the most charming of eccentrics!
