*** Sadly we have had to cancel this event on short notice as poor Salley’s car has broken down somewhere in Northumbria and she will not be able to reach us in time! We will however be getting signed copies of the book soon and are hoping to reschedule an event for the spring ***

Since bursting onto the literary scene with her stunning and sensational debut, Miss Garnet’s Angel in 2000, Vickers‘ incredibly popular novels have been a continual presence in bookshops up and down the country. Her novels, now onto her tenth, have been praised for their stunning depth and richly layered stories, that, alongside her imaginative plots and relatable characters, make her a much loved author of stunning capacities.

Combining grace with gravity and wisdom with wit, this latest novel by Salley Vickers simply radiates soul. – Victoria Cooper

In Cousins, Vickers asks how much love can demand of us? Brilliant and mercurial Will Tye suffers a life changing accident. The terrible event ripples through three generations of the complex and eccentric Tye family, bringing to light old tragedies and dangerous secrets. Each member of the family holds some clue to the chain of events which may have led to the accident and each holds themselves to blame.

Vickers is a novelist in the great English tradition of moral seriousness. Her characters suffer, they struggle to be true to both themselves and the promptings of the human heart. If you enjoy the work of Marilynne Robinson, Penelope Fitzgerald, James Salter or Anita Brookner, you should be reading Vickers. All these authors reflect with grace and gravity on life’s moments of sorrowful epiphany. – Washington Post
