The Galley Bookclub is an informal monthly gathering for young readers where we talk about books and share snacks and recommendations ~ it’s the perfect opportunity for budding bibliophiles to make new discoveries and new friends!
We ask that for each gathering you bring along a wee review of a new or an all-time favourite book (just a few sentences will do) which we will put up on our wall so that your recommendations can help other readers find great books! We’ll talk a little about the books we love (and those we haven’t) and at the end we’ll send you all home with a Galley: a book that’s not even published yet.
We’ll usually be meeting on the last Sunday of each month at 10am, with squash and nibbles, in the childrens’ section of The Bookshop. Parents have the opportunity to browse, with complimentary cups of tea or coffee, whilst the Book Group takes place. Vouchers to join are £5 and this can be used off any book in the children’s room. Gatherings last approximately 45 minutes during which time parents can switch off with a cup of tea or coffee, a biscuit and a good browse!
The bookclub is aimed at readers aged 8-11, although confident readers aged 7 are also welcome.
We would encourage younger readers who are on their first chapter books to wait until they are 7 and reading confidently before joining us – there’s no need to rush! Sadly we do not receive books from publishers for such young readers and in our experience little ones can feel ever so slightly out of place.
