Children's Book Club

Every first Sunday of the month 10am - 11am.

Meeting on the 6th of August.

This month's picks are When The World Was Ours by Liz Kessler, and Fireborn by Aisling Fowler.

When The World Was Ours by Liz Kessler

The year is 1936 and in Vienna a group of three best friends is torn apart by the arrival of the Nazis.

As a growing darkness descends around them, Leo and Elsa run for their lives, taking two very different paths across Europe. And Max, once their closest friend, now becomes the enemy as he is drawn into the Hitler Youth. Will the friends ever find their way back to each other? Will they want to?

Inspired by a true story, When The World Was Ours is an extraordinary novel that is as powerful as it is heartbreaking, and shows how the bonds of love, family and friendship allow glimmers of hope to flourish, even in the most hopeless of times.

Fireborn by Aisling Fowler

Twelve has spoken the Pledge and now she is a Huntling. She has given up her name to train in the art of fighting monsters, and she won't choose a new one until she has earned it. But when her friend is taken, Twelve sets off on a dangerous journey to rescue her. Teaming up with Dog, the stone Guardian of the Hunting Lodge, Twelve ends up on an epic adventure that will change her life, her name - and her entire world.

Set in the snowy northern forests of a prehistoric world this adventure is equal parts exciting, funny and heart wrenchingly sad.
