An Evening of Whisky with Charles MacLean

As the temperature dips and the nights draw in, what better way to spend a Friday evening than with a spot of whisky and one of the leading authorities on our national spirit. Charles MacLean was trained in ‘the sensory evaluation of potable spirits’ by the Scottish Whisky Research Institute in 1992, and has been studying and writing about the history, production, and, of course, the taste of whisky ever since.
With over 25 years of experience, and a host of books to his name, Charlie’s insights into the water of life are not to be missed. Join us to celebrate both his Spirit of Place, a beautifully produced and illustrated study of the Scottish ‘terroir’ and the distilleries who cultivate it, and 30-Second Whisky, an introduction to the topic in 50 wee nips — the 50 most important ideas in whisky distilled into a few hundred words each. Charlie is a most entertaining and engaging speaker, and we thoroughly look forward to welcoming him into the bookshop (and maybe even a wee dram as well!)
