Born in Kelso in 1950, Alistair Moffat has been director of both Scottish Television and the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as Rector of the University of St Andrews and co-chairman of the Great Tapestry of Scotland. He is an informed, accessible, and authoritative historian, known for his Scotland: A History from Earliest Times, The Hidden Ways: Scotland’s Forgotten Roads, and many other publications.
Alistair joins us this September to celebrate the publication of To the Island of Tides: A Journey to Lindisfarne. Walking from his home in the borders to a secular retreat on the holy island, Alistair explores the history of Lindisfarne. From the lives of saints and the creation of the Lindisfarne gospels, to its abandonment under Henry VIII and its role in the world today, Moffat provides a beautiful account of a remarkable place.
