Robert Jones of Topping & Company, a serious Le Guin fan since his early teens, leads a weekend-long exploration of the life and work of Ursula Le Guin. Investigating her early background in anthropology and linguistics, her place within the larger field of science fiction and the constantly evolving nature of her thought in relation to politics, literature and society, he hopes to demonstrate the consistently rewarding excellence of her writing, with its recurring concerns and patterns. The weekend is aimed at both those new to Le Guin and those already acquainted with her writing. Absolutely no reading is required beforehand, though a suggested reading list is provided.
The cost is £60, inclusive of vegetarian lunch, tea and coffee on both days, and a £10.00 voucher to spend in the shop. There will also be an opportunity to sample some of the original recipes included in Le Guin’s most expansive and experimental novel – Always Coming Home
