A discursive study day on one of the greatest novels ever written, led by experienced lecturer Fiona Lucraft.
We will consider Tolstoy’s life and times, as well as his controversial depiction of the Napoleonic era in Russia. In addition we will examine aspects of the novel, such as characterisation, story and Tolstoy’s literary style. We will study extracts from Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky’s translation published by Vintage. Prior reading of War and Peace is not essential for this introductory course.
£35, to include lunch and a £10 voucher to spend in the shop. The day will run from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.
