Waiting for the Albino Dunnock is a novice birdwatcher’s exploration of the world of birds, written with the freshness and passion of a convert. The author is rooted in East Anglia, and she describes a year of encounters with her local birds, as well as occasional journeys farther afield . But the experience of birdwatching is often more about the search than the result, and a wider picture emerges of what it means to be human in relationship to nature. Rosamond Richardson, best-selling author of a number of books about the countryside, explores the degree to which wildness is embedded in the human psyche and how beauty is central to our mental and emotional wellbeing, while highlighting the careless damage we are inflicting on the natural world.
