Professor Christopher Andrew is undoubtedly the world’s leading authority on intelligence, having pioneered its study at Cambridge University. The author of many books, including Defence of the Realm: the authorized History of MI5 ,and the two volumes of the Mitrohkin Archive, Professor Andrew has now written the widest ranging history of intelligence and security operations yet written, The Secret World. He sets out to recover what he calls the ‘lost history of global intelligence’ over the last three millennia – and to demonstrate how essential it is to intelligence in the 21 st century. In doing so, he offers an exhilarating account of spies and espionage through the centuries and, intriguingly, a new angle on Ely’s Oliver Cromwell. We are privileged and excited to welcome him to Ely.
