After the success of his last event with us in 2011 for The Book of Books we are pleased to warmly welcome back Lord Bragg with his latest novel Grace & Mary. Spanning three generations, this deeply moving story follows John as he visits his ageing mother, Mary, in her nursing home by the sea. As Mary’s mind begins to fade John tries to prompt and shore up her memories with songs, photographs and questions stretching back to her childhood in a small Cumbrian town and the mother, Grace, she barely knew. Delving into Mary’s fractured childhood, its secrets and silences, John attempts to recreate a lost family history from the 19th century and imagines the life of his spirited  grandmother.
