The poetry of Lachlan Mackinnon has a unique personal quality to it that makes the all too rare appearance of a new book by him an eagerly awaited event. His latest, The Missing Months, hinges on a sequence of short lyrics reflecting the experience of Covid Lockdown in Ely, and includes characteristically affecting elegies for friends alongside visions of wry scepticism and understated hope. Always humane, alert and questioning, whilst shot through with distinctive humour, these are treasurable, haunting poems of direct appeal and subtle depth. Those present at our launch of the superb Doves, back in 2017, will know that Lachlan is a matchless reader of his own work and this appearance by one of Ely's most distinguished literary figures promises something truly special.

Lachlan Mackinnon is author of six collections of poems including Small Hours, shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Poetry in 2010 and works of criticism and biography. He is a regular reviewer for the national press and received a Cholmondeley Award in 2011.
