Blood and Steel is the second book in the epic Throne of the Caesars series, set in third century Rome; a dramatic era of murder, coup, counter-rebellions and civil war. It is AD238, and Emperor Maximinus finds his reign shaken by the strain of war and the threat of rebellion. After the first blood of revolt is spilt by the supporters of Gordian the Elder, the Senate endorses the rebels: the Gordiani are hailed as Emperors.
On the dusty plains outside Carthage, a bloody battle ensues which will determine the fate of the Roman Empire…
Informed by scholarship , but written with a novelist’s flair, Harry Sidebottom’s books are the best of both worlds, and we are delighted to welcome him back to the bookshop.
