After his two popular evening sessions devoted to the life and work of H. P. Lovecraft, Robert Jones of Topping & Company, will preside over a final gathering looking at the extraordinary and influential late work produced by the man Stephen King described as “the twentieth century horror story’s dark and baroque prince” between his return to Providence in 1926 and his early death in 1927. From the expansive Polar vistas of “At the Mountain’s of Madness” to the twisted gothic of ” The Shadow over Innsmouth”, the austere science fiction of “The Colour out of Space” to the weird surrealism of “The Dreams in the Witch House”, it was a period that saw a remarkable development in his eccentric talent. The session will look at these and other products of his singular imagination, as well as the curious fluctuations of his posthumous reputation. The session will be perfectly welcoming both to those who were unable to make the previous dates and to any wishing to return for more eldritch excitements. As before, there will be a break in which coffee and cake will be served.
