Gyles has been a theatre producer, politician, journalist, author and publisher as well as TV presenter and radio star in a career which has spanned five decades. He is known equally for his record number of appearances on TV’s Countdown, for his improvising wit on Radio’s Just a Minute and his love of jumpers and teddy bears. In addition, his time as MP for the City of Chester inspired an acclaimed, and still relevant, account of Westminster. Now Gyles has produced ‘Dancing by the Light of the Moon’, a celebration of the finest uses of our English language from the classics, Auden, Wilde, Shakespeare to our all-time favourites, Milligan, McGough and Armitage, to even our most modern works by Rupi Kaur. There can be few more loved characters around than Gyles Brandreth, and the show that goes with his book is ‘A total joy’, according to The Scotsman. We are over the moon to welcome him to Ely!
