Of This and Other Worlds - Science Fiction and Fantasy Reading Group

Starting this February, we’ll be kicking off our Fantasy and Science Fiction reading group, exploring worlds both fantastical and horrific, monstrous and utopian.

Whether your interests lie in exploring the ruins of a lost civilization, challenging fiends to save the world from ruin or delicately navigating the politics of a corporate interstellar McEmpire™ (Ask about our franchising options and get a free McNuke™!), I do hope you’ll join us on every 3rd Monday of the month.

For the seventh reading group of 2023, we’ll be entering a world of alternate history, as the Napoleonic Wars are shaped by a lethal, yet fiercely independent weapon. Dragon riders.

Captain Will Laurence is a man who's worked hard to create a prosperous future for himself. Born to low means, he's fought tooth and nail to climb the ranks of the British Navy, earning himself a beautiful fiancée, prestige and the promise of great wealth. All of which is scuppered, when, after a fierce engagement with a French ship, he finds himself in possession of a rare cargo. A dragon egg. Which soon hatches, imprinting on him and dragging him from his lofty post into the rather less prestigious Aerial Corps.

His golden future gone, all that awaits him now is to be the companion and rider of the fighting dragon, Temeraire, even as war looms large over Europe...
