Feminist Fiction Reading Group

Our September pick for the Fiction Reading Group is the amazing historical novel, The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell! A highly requested favorite, this is surely to be a vigorous and lengthy conversation, so we are actually going to start this session a little earlier at 19:00.

For those who have not read this bestselling novel yet, this book takes us back to Renaissance Italy as we follow Lucrezia de Medici as she enters an arranged marriage to Alfonso Ferranese, which is destined to end in a sudden death. Lucrezia is only 16 and the singular image that remains of her is the portrait commissioned to celebrate her marriage. So as she sits for said portrait, we see Lucrezia feel the metaphorical and literal eyes of the Florentine court watching her as she is used as a political pawn. Both transporting and transformative, this will be a thrilling read to discuss to close out the summer months.
