January is a gloomy enough month as it is without a sad novel or two to dampen the mood. In light of this, we have gone for something a bit cheerier for 2015’s first reading group: Nora Ephron’s Heartburn. As with her much-imitated film When Harry Met Sally, Heartburn is the scathingly funny tale of Rachel, a pregnant wife who has found herself battling a failing marriage with her cookery writing. Naturally, she’s torn between winning her husband back and wishing him dead.
Come along for a warming glass of wine (or two) and a cup of tea or coffee. It will be a lively night of books and friendly conversation – what more could one want on a cold January evening?
