For our May group, we time travel to 1950’s New York with a classic of American fiction. James Baldwin’s Another Country is a masterly story of desire, hatred and violence, and opens with the unforgettable character of Rufus Scott, a scavenging Harlem jazz musician adrift in the city. Self-destructive, bad and brilliant, he draws us into a bohemian underworld pulsing with heat, music and sex, where desperate and dangerous characters betray, love and test each other to the limit.
Our reading group is a warm friendly space welcome to all levels of reader. We have tea, coffee, wine and a variety of nibbles, alongside a group of truly lovely regulars.
