Richard Fortey, formerly senior paleontologist at the Natural History Museum, joins us for an evening to give an illustrated talk about his new book, The Wood for The Trees.

Combining stunning natural history with the ancient history of the countryside, this wonderfully evocative biography of a beech and bluebell wood through diverse moods and changing seasons tells the full story of the british landscape.

Drawing upon a lifetime of scientific expertise and an abiding love of nature, Richard Fortey uses his four acres of ancient beech-and-bluebell woodland buried deep in the Chiltern Hills to tell the wider story of the ever-changing British landscape, the human influence on the countryside over many centuries and the vital interactions between flora, fauna and fungi.
