Celebrated travel journalist, Caroline Eden’s award-winning Black Sea: Dispatches and Recipes Through Darkness and Light is a feasting journey between three great cities – Odessa, built on a dream by Catherine the Great, through Istanbul, the fulcrum balancing Europe and Asia and on to tough, stoic, lyrical Trabzon. From the Jewish table of Odessa, to meeting the last fisherwomen of Bulgaria and charting the legacies of the White Russian émigrés in Istanbul, Caroline will give us a unique insight into a part of the world that is both shaded by darkness and illuminated by light.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to a supper of rare and delicious tastes with this most charming storyteller and inspired explorer. She has a nose for a great recipe and an ear for an extraordinary story. Our menu for the evening will look a little like this:
Potemkin Cocktail (Punchy Salty Vodka), Forgiving Forshmak (Herring & Radish)
From Romania – Sour Soup, Little Ones with Mustard Mujdei
From Bulgaria – Blackened Peppers with Feta and Mint, Aromatic Bigos
From Istanbul – Black Sea Börek
From Trabzon – Kaygana with Anchovies & Herbs
From Turkey – Baked Sesame Halva
