Alberto Manguel is one of our finest literary critics, but though a critically acclaimed writer himself, Manguel describes himself first and foremost as a reader. His lifelong love of reading began when, as a teenager working in the Pygmalion bookshop in Buenos Aires, he was asked by the blind Jorge Luis Borges to read aloud to him at his home, which he did from 1964 to 1968.
