On the Booker Prize shortlist this year are Real Life, the story of a biochemist at a Midwestern university; This Mournable Body, in which we meet a woman at breaking point in Harari; The Shadow King offers the untold story of women soldiers in 1930s Ethiopia; The New Wilderness and Burnt Sugar are two strikingly different explorations of mother-daughter relationships; and, lastly, Shuggie Bain introduces us to a young boy handling life with an alcoholic mother in Glasgow. All of the shortlisted titles are available to order through our website for delivery or collection. Or pop in to one of our bookshops for a pot of tea or coffee and a browse!

The winner is announced a little later this year, on November 19th, so there's plenty of time to judge for yourself.
