‘Sal is a story with incredible heart, told so beautifully and with such clarity and grace I can hardly believe it’s a debut! I loved it’ — Joanna Cannon, author of The Trouble with Goats and Sheep
Sal is ready for survival. She has planned for over a year, assembling an Ordnance Survey map, a compass, a Bear Grylls knife, and has spent hours watching Youtube videos. The last great wilderness in Scotland awaits. To protect her sister Peppa, and to have the adventure of a lifetime, Sal sets off into a world where only the kindness of strangers and the power of sisterly love can keep her alive. With a distinctive voice, and a beguiling, dizzying beauty, Sal is one of the most eagerly awaited debuts of the year.
Before penning his first novel, Mick Kitson has been variously one half of pop duo The Senators, a journalist, and a fly-fisher, but is known to many in St Andrews for his years as an English teacher at St Leonards. We are delighted to be hosting Mick in the bookshop, and to be celebrating Sal in the town where he wrote this lyrical, adventurous novel.
