Alexandra Shulman

We are delighted that the inimitable former editor of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, will join us to discuss her candid memoir Clothes & Other Things That Matter.

To book places, order your copy of Clothes & Other Things That Matter from us online – either order a hardback edition here or pre-order a paperback edition here. Each copy of the book includes access to the online event. We’ll send the event link to the email address you use to complete your order, 24 hours before the event.

Alexandra mixes memoir, fashion history and social observation to explore how our wardrobes intersect with the wider world, delving into her own life to look at the emotions, expectations and meanings behind the way we dress. She considers items of clothing ranging from the little black dress to the white shirt, red shoes to the bustier, and the Chanel jacket to the bikini. Taking pieces of clothing and examining their role in both her own life and women’s lives in general, she explores issues such as climbing the career ladder, motherhood, romance, fame, celebrity, nostalgia, sexual identity, ambition, power and body image.

The result is a funny, refreshingly self-deprecating and often very moving book – we can’t wait to hear more about it from Alexandra herself.
