The Swallows is a new book group for 9-11 year-olds. We will meet on the last Sunday of the month at 10 am, with squash and biscuits, in the childrens’ section of the bookshop. Parents have the opportunity to browse, with complimentary cups of tea or coffee, whilst the Swallows Book Group takes place. Vouchers are £3 to join and this amount can be used off any book in the children’s department on the day.
To engage all types of readers we pick two books per month for a half hour discussion. You will have the chance to talk about anything: from twisting storylines to favourite characters to wild and wacky book designs. Often the most exciting discussions are those where not everyone has liked the book, so don’t worry if it wasn’t quite your thing. You will have the chance to write reviews for books which will be displayed in the bookshop and placed on our Goodreads website. And even more exciting- each month there will be the chance to win surprise ‘proofs’ of books which no-one has seen yet.
There are only a few guidelines for book groups generally. These are that everyone listens to each other, everyone respects the opinions of others and everyone offers comments based on reason and evidence. This month’s books are The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge, and Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens.
