England’s Cathedrals are the nation’s glory, each one an individual masterpiece reflecting our history, our culture and our imagination. For over a thousand years they have towered over our towns, cities and countryside, more a part of the fabric of our daily lives than the grandest castle or palace. In Simon Jenkins, author of England’s Thousand Best Churches and former chairman of the National Trust, our cathedrals have their ideal chronicler. We are delighted to announce that Simon will be talking in Ely Cathedral, of which he writes: ‘Ely stands as one of my three graces. After each visit I am left in a state of wonder that England could have created such a place eight centuries ago.’
