We are thrilled to be able to welcome one of our foremost national poets to Ely. Simon Armitage has been writing beautiful poetry on everything from cataracts to childhood to the state of England. His dry Yorkshire wit is never cruel but always incisive, and his wealth of other works – novels, dramas and libretti, to name just a few – are always full of the same beautiful and poetic language as his verse. Now he has turned his attention to perhaps our greatest legend, the story of King Arthur. With his usual gorgeous style and clever commentary that simultaneously celebrates his subject and examines its flaws, Simon has given us a unique and beautiful retelling of the Morte d’Arthur that is destined to be a modern classic.
