Reading Group: The Gustav Sonata

The Gustav Sonata – Rose Tremain.

Rose Tremain amazes me. I haven’t always enjoyed her narratives, but I never cease to be awed by the breadth and depth of her subject matter, the fearlessness of her approach, and the sheer elegance of her writing. The Gustav Sonata exemplifies what she does so well: writing in a tone and rhythm that perfectly capture the spirit of the place, people, and history framing her story.
