Gervase Phinn in Ely

Monday 11th November 2013

  • Venue St Peter's Church, Broad Street, Ely, CB7 4AH
  • Doors open 7.10pm
  • Start time 7.30pm

Gervase Phinn has become a British institution. In a time when schools are under more pressure than ever before, when children and teenagers are often stereotyped, his gently humorous tales of the challenges and triumphs of school life in the Yorkshire Dales have charmed thousands. In the latest novel, A School Inspector Calls, Gervase returns us once more to the mostly fictional Barton-in-the-Dale, where a series of upheavals threaten to disrupt school life once and for all. As headteacher Elizabeth Devine attempts to steer her colleagues, pupils and local community back into calmer waters, anything and everything seems destined to cause havoc around her!

Gervase is a wonderful speaker, as charming and clear-sighted in person as he is on the page. Do not miss this very exciting late addition to our Literary Festival.
