Explore the world from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arabian Sea as we celebrate the voices of POC and diasporic authors. Within the pages of a book, get ready to ditch the cloudy English weather for new overseas landscapes, dishes, and cultural experiences. Embracing diversity is important to us at Toppings, so please come along to discuss each month’s book paired with a glass of wine (or cordial!) and snacks (which may or may not go with the book theme).
This month’s book is ‘Becoming a Matriarch’ by Helen Knott. We have the pleasure of Knott digitally joining us from across the pond to discuss the book!
Helen Knott is an Indigenous woman from the Prophet River First Nation located in Canada. Be ready to dive into her beautifully written memoir as she holds the reader’s hand, guiding them through what matriarchy means to her and her family - as well as grief, addiction, and intergenerational trauma. This is an important read that breaks down the matriarchal expectations imposed on Indigenous women.
All readers are welcome to join our Diasporic and Indigenous Voices Group; creating a safe space for inclusive discussions.
