Deborah Cohen is a fascinating historian – her first book, Household Gods, was a riveting exploration of the British relationship with the idea of home. Her new offering is a gripping history of our relationship with shame- what we are ashamed of, what we choose to hide and to reveal, and how these ideas have changed over time. Focussing on a variety of families, from Victorian days to the modern day, and the things we choose to hide, she reaches some fascinating and enlightening conclusions about the ways in which we handle and conserve both our dignity and our history.

Join us for the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of a historian who focuses on the most intimate and revealing details of our past and our present.
