In an era dominated by the fleeting transactions of Facebook and Twitter, two champions of good old paper-and-ink are fighting back with a vengeance. Simon Garfield, acclaimed author of Just My Type and On The Map, explores a vanishing world in To The Letter. Meanwhile, in Letters of Note, Shaun Usher has compiled over 100 entertaining missives from his seismically popular website of the same name.

To the Letter explores  the great correspondences of history, from Cicero to Jane Austen to a moving wartime correspondence that illuminates how letters can transform the course of our lives. In Letters of Note the humour, sadness and brilliance that make up all of our lives are made palpably evident, be it in Virginia Woolf’s heartbreaking suicide note or in the recipe for drop-scones that the Queen sent to President Eisenhower. Both books are a wonderful celebration of letters in every form.

Come out in support of a dying art that has shaped human life for centuries.
