Join us for an evening with Gardeners’ World star Frances Tophill as she talks about creating a beautiful small garden from scratch. She has amassed a legion of fans since first appearing on Gardeners’ World in 2016 and her popularity continues to grow as she charms audiences nationwide with her reassuring approach.

A Year in a Small Garden is her first official Gardeners’ World book - it documents her journey as a first-time homeowner bringing life to her new garden, sharing her key principles for small garden design as well as tips and tricks to achieve similar results in whatever space you have. Having painstakingly saved for her first house deposit, Frances represents a new generation of gardeners for whom buying a house is trickier than it has ever been before, with budget constraints front of mind and sustainability and conservation also a big focus. In A Year in a Small Garden, Frances distils everything she has learnt so far in her career into practical advice and a beautiful philosophy of gardening.

The book is structured around the stages of building her small garden and branches out to include small community gardens that Frances is passionate about as well as specific advice on allotments and greenhouses. There are also lots of projects to create in small spaces at home, with a focus on growing food and planting in a sustainable, environmentally-friendly way.
